CMS for Digital Cinema
Product Design, Engineering
Overview
Since the mid 2000’s, theatrical distributors around the world have rapidly shifted away from the use of celluloid film and have adopted a digital format known as DCP (Digital Cinema Package). These packages range from 100 to 350 Gigabytes in size and contain multiple files as well as metadata information. Looking to make the delivery of these files secure, manageable and cost effective, an industry-leading store-and-forward technology provider needed an efficient and intuitive Content Management System (CMS) to allow them to successfully deploy their technology at scale.
What We Did
The team at Konstrukt designed and developed a CMS on top of the technology provider’s store-and-forward engine. The solution enabled the centralized distribution and management of hundreds of films and trailers across a footprint of thousands of theaters using IP satellite and high performance broadband networks.
Outcome
The product was selected by a North American theatrical distribution cooperative and now provides content to over 25,000 screens across the US and Canada. The product continues to be deployed by other film distributors around the world.
